What is the court's copy fee and policy?

The Judicial Conference sets all fees for the District Courts. The mandated fee for copying by our office is $.50 per page. Requests for in house copying must be made in person.
The Clerk's Office offers an alternative copy service for documents over 20 pages. The charge from this service is substantially less expensive and their turn-around time is 48 hours. Please use this order form.

What are the witness' fees and mileage?

The witness fee is $40.00 per day and 48.5 cents per mile..

What forms of payment are acceptable for USDC?

Cash, check, cashiers' check or money order payable to Clerk, U.S. District Court. We do not accept third party checks. We do not accept personal checks for payment of bonds. We do not accept any charge cards.

Are all records in the clerk's office public information?

All records are public information unless sealed by the court.

Effective January 3, 2005, we will be open to the public from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

What does it mean if a person is granted In Forma Pauperis (IFP) status?

It means that the court has waived the filing fee requirement of $150.00. It does not mean that other costs, such as copying, are waived.

How many copies are required when I file documents?

The court needs an original plus two copies of motions, memoranda and briefs, original plus three copies of exhibit lists and original plus four copies of witness lists (for trial use).
If you mail your documents to the court and want a return copy, please remember to send the required amount of copies according to the above plus an additional copy to conform and return to you.

How many Judges are in the District??

There are four U.S. District Judges and two Senior U.S. District Judges. The District Judges are assisted by three full-time Magistrate Judges.

How many days will it take to receive an archive request?

Individuals who request files from archives can expect to review those files within 2-3 weeks. There is a retrieval fee of $45.00.

Whom do I call for calendar information?

The Courtroom Deputies should be called to have matters placed on the Court's calendar. (Check Contacts on the main page.)

Do I need to file a Notice to Take Depositions with the Court?

Who issues subpoenas for local or mainland depositions?

Counsel may issue their own subpoenas for depositions. (See Fed.R.Civ.P. 45(a)(3))

Can I file documents/pleadings afer the office is closed??

To file documents or pleadings after business hours, a document receptacle is available at the front entrance to the courthouse. Documents must be date/time stamped to reflect the exact time they were placed in the receptacle. (see Notice RE: New document Receptacle for After-Hours Filing)

How do I obtain the latest Post Judgment Interest Rates?

The most recent rates can be obtained from the Federal Reserve web site. The Federal Reserve web site provides a table of Selected Interest Rates . The applicable rate may be found by scrolling down to the section entitled: "US government securities - Treasury constant maturities - 1-year." The most recent rate is found under the column headed "Week Ending ____."
